The Sumner High girls tennis team started the season with a 3-2 nonleague victories over Yelm and North Thurston before dropping the league opener to Auburn Mountainview Friday 3-2.

Against Yelm March 15, the Spartans picked up wins at No. 2 singles from Brittany Reid, 6-4, 6-1; No. 2 doubles, Brittany Skirm and Jasmine Babcock, 6-4, 6-1; and No. 3 doubles, Kyla Anderson and Kelli Latta, 6-2, 6-2.

It was a doubles sweep against North Thurston March 17, with Taylor Henken and Kally Bieber winning 6-1, 6-1. Skirm and Babcock battled for a 7-5 win in the first set, lost the second 7-6 and picked up the third 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Anderson and Latta won 6-1, 6-1.

Skirm and Babcock earned a 6-2, 6-4 win against the Lions. Latta teamed up with Taylor Friermuth for a 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 3 doubles, while Henken and Anderson won the first set 6-3, lost the second 6-4 and then dropped the third 6-1.
