SLIDESHOW: Spartan track races past Panthers

The Sumner High track and field program throttled Bonney Lake Thursday, with the Spartans boys winning 90-53 and the girls coming out on top 98.5-50.

The Sumner High track and field program throttled Bonney Lake Thursday, with the Spartans boys winning 90-53 and the girls coming out on top 98.5-50.

Sumner girls and boys took first place in the javelin, Rachel Fox and Neil Bateman, shot put, Veronica Carnahan and Sean Dorfler, discus, Katrina Carter and Dorfler, pole vault, Micaehla Trulson and Jonoah Lentz, the high jump, Kaitlyn Neary and Marcus Oei, triple jump, Leia Fecteau and Ryan Finneran, and long jump, Fecteau and Oei.

SHS girls claimed first in the majority of the sprint events, winning the 100-, 200-, 400- and 800-meter dashes.

Sumner’s Lauren Bulzomi flew to a 13.85-second time in the 100 meters, while teammate Leah DeDominces cruised to a 28.33 clocking in the 200.

Spartans Zoe Conrad and Natasha Wilson crossed the finish line first and second in the 400-meter run and Gabby DeGoede won the 800-meter run.

Bonney Lake kept its distance winning tradition alive as the girls finished second, third and fourth in the 800-meter run, while Sierra Espinal and Marie Wilson finished first in the 1600 meter and 3,200 meter jaunts.

Bonney Lake’s Reed Hawkins bolted to victories in both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs, just beating out Sumner’s Cory Brandt in the 1,600.
