Spartans send five wrestlers to Tacoma Dome state competition

Sumner High’s boys wrestling team entered Olympic High School with eight wrestlers and left with five state qualifiers ready to shake the Tacoma Dome Friday.

The weekend’s regional tournament had grapplers going head-to-head with several opponents over the course of the day to advance through their brackets.

A.J. Atoigue, at 152 pounds, took a second-place finish in his weight class.

Travis Filleau and Jacob Unger took third and fourth, respectively, at 106 pounds. Jeremy Jackson, 132 pounds, took third place; Jed Schliesman, 138, took fourth; and Zach Wooding, 145 pounds, took sixth, as did 182-pounder Nick Ehrenhiem.

Atoigue, Filleau, Unger, Jackson and Schliesman all move on to state.

Sumner finished seventh of 15 teams with 79 team points. White River High School was the top finisher with 141.
