Greensox capture CanAm Classic
The 13-and-younger Greensox won the championship at the Can Am Classic Tournament July 2-5 in Oliver, British Columbia. During the tournament the Greensox outscored their five opponents, from Canada and the United States, 71-6. To date this season, including this tournament, the Greensox have faced 43 different teams in tournament and Sandy Koufax League action. The Greensox have gone 48-7 for a winning percentage of .873, including three tournament championships and two tournament second-place finishes. They have outscored their opponents 493-167.
The Greensox are made up of players from Buckley, Bonney Lake, Lake Tapps, Auburn, Pacific and Federal Way.
Hall will compete in high school rodeo
Hailey Jo Hall, a junior at Enumclaw High, has earned a position on the Washington state high school rodeo team and will travel with teammates to the 61st annual National High School Finals Rodeo.
She will compete in barrel racing and goat tying.
The national event is planned for July 19-25 in Farmington, N.M.
Featuring more than 1,500 contestants from 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, the National High School Finals is the world’s largest rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $200,000 in prizes, contestants will also be vying for more than $325,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named the national high school champion.
Two teams tie with 3-under par play
Shooting 3-under par Thursday, there was a two-way tie for first in the Lee golf tournament.
Mark Sims chipped in for birdie on the seventh hole to give him and teammates Doug Wilde, Sheila Shannon and Phillis Brown a first-place finish.
Mary Josie’s drive on eight that put her just 70 yards from the green was the pivotal point for her team’s first-place finish. Her foursome included Tim Marrapodi, Jean Welsh and Jim Swift.
Paced by Sharon Swift’s putting, the team of Swift, Shawn Wetton, Kay Smith and Al Beauchamp were not far behind the others at 2-under par.
Basketball camp features alumni
Tony Binetti will team up with Enumclaw’s Parks and Recreation to present the Plateau Pro Basketball Camp from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 27-29 at Enumclaw High for boys entering third through eighth grades.
Camp also features EHS graduate Ryan McDade, who most recently played in Sweden, as well as basketball coaches and counselors.

Although preregistration is encouraged, boys can sign up on the first day of camp. A few scholarships are being offered, and will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Plateau golfers play Washington Games
Enumclaw golfers participated in the Subway Washington Games’ match play event July 6 and 7 at McCormick Woods Golf Course in Port Orchard, Wash.
Jake Erickson and Jordan Beals earned bronze medals, winning two matches in the boys 11th- and 12th-grade division. Teddy Sherwood from Enumclaw won one match.
In the boys 9th- and 10th-grade division, Tyler Salsbury, who won three out of four matches, earned a silver medal. David Smith from Enumclaw won one match.
Sharpshooters win hoops in Spokane
The Bonney Lake Sharpshooters won all the games in their bracket during the Spokane Hoopfest June 26 and 27 and qualified for the championship game. After going undefeated through the entire tournament, the boys lost the championship game by two points and finished second in their bracket.
Hornets score title at wrestling camp
Enumclaw High won the team title in the gold division at the North Idaho College wrestling camp June 21-25 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The Hornets’ junior varsity team finished fourth in the silver division.
The Hornets brought 30 wrestlers and divided into two teams, each finishing pool play with a 4-1 record.
Enumclaw had four champions in the Takedown Tournament – Hunter File, who topped teammate Lucas Somera, Andrew Fox, Josh Musick and Brad McCutchen.
Making the trip for the Hornets were Travis Reano, David Kingman, Bradley Young, Riley Sexton, AJ Tontelandolfo, Johnny Avila, David Prince, Cole Snider, Riley Klein, Russell Horton, File, Marcus Nichols, Jonathan Sugihara, DJ Qualls, Colton Malek, Stephen Knapp, Colton Hyatt, McCutchen, Jeff Wiltse, Somera, Casey Craft, Fox, Tanner Southland, AJ Molieri, Teddy Sherwood, Kyler Burnett, Taylor Greenside, Musick, Wyatt Josie and Kelyn and Kario Wallin.
Kahne moves up four spots to eighth
Kasey Kahne rocketed up four spots to eighth in NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers standings with a third-place finish Saturday night in Chicago.
It was Kahne’s best career finish at the Chicago oval and it further cements his spot among the Top 12 who will square off for the Sprint Cup title in the final 10 races at the end of the season.
Making the Chase for the Championship isn’t a done deal for Kahne and the No. 9 Budweiser Dodge team yet, but he’s on a roll.
