Sumner keeps searching for win

Sumner High’s wrestlers lost to Timberline and Lakes last week and found themselves still in search of their first league dual match win of the season. They also found themselves finishing eighth in the annual 18-team Ed Arima Invitational, a Sumner High-hosted tournament at the end of this Saturday’s festivities, missing seventh by a half of a point.

Sumner 215 pounder, senior Keiffer Comstock, won all four of his matches by pin in the Ed Arima and was champion in his weight division. Sumner seniors Matt Fierroz and Phillip Ramirez continue to excel in tournament action as they both placed third.

The week was not good to the Spartans injury-wise, as 103-pound freshman Curtis Downing was lost for the season due to an injury he sustained in practice and stalwart 171-pounder Colby Grant hurt his elbow during the Ed Arima event and could not continue.

Sumner High’s grapplers carry on this week as they invade Peninsula’s gym at 7 tonight, Wednesday, and then send a dozen entrants to the Willie Stewart Invitational at Foss High Saturday.
