Sumner is assured of a spot in the Class 3A West Central/Southwest District soccer tournament after tying Bonney Lake Friday in their regular season finale.

Because of the 1-1 tie, Sumner dropped from third to fourth place in the South Puget Sound League 3A.

Sumner finished the season 7-5-4 overall and 4-2-2 in league. Franklin Pierce took first in the district, followed by Auburn Riverside and Enumclaw. White River finished fifth to claim the final playoff spot.

Philip Kyllo scored the Spartans’ lone goal for the tie.

Sumner will play Evergreen of Burien (10-6) at 5:30 today, Wednesday, at Highline Stadium in subdistrict action. Both teams advance to the district tournament.

The winner will be the No. 7 seed and will play at 1 p.m. Saturday against the WCD No. 1 at South Sound Stadium in Lacey. The loser (No. 8 seed) faces the Greater St. Helens League No. 1 at 1 p.m. in Camas.

Sumner scored a 3-2 win over White River May 5.

Schmuck scored two goals – including the game winner in the 72nd minute of play.

Schmuck opened up the scoring early in the 8th minute of play with a goal off a Mike Orphan assist.

A minute later, Evan Robertson’s unassisted goal tied the score.

SHS’s Sam Hoyt scored off a Jacon Pierce assist in the 16th minute of play, but the Hornets tied the scored, 2-2, on a Jesse Ritz goal four minutes later.
