In a close contest, the Sumner Spartan girls lost to North Thurston, 3-1, in nonleague volleyball action Sept. 8 at home.

North Thurston won the two games, 25-21 and 28-26, before the Spartans bounced back for a 25-23 win in the third game.

The Ram won the series with a 28-26 win.

For Sumner, 6-foot-2 Sidney Erickson hammered 18 kills and Jessica Vandergiessen recorded three blocks. Kailey Smith dished out 35 assists.

Defensively, Janille Panula came up with12 digs and served three aces.

Sumner plays at 4A Puyallup in a 7:15 game Sept. 10.
