The Bonney Lake Panthers lost to powerhouse Capital High 131-37 in the season-opening boys swim meet for both schools Dec. 3.

The Cougars won all 11 events at the Sumner High pool. There was no diving competition.

“We were missing quite a few swimmers due to ineligibilities, so we were a little shorthanded,” Panther coach Jay Paulson said.

Key team members missing due to injury included Cody Steiert, district qualifier in the distance events, who was out with back problems and Eben Sarver, a district relay swimmer and sprinter, who was out with a neck injury.

“Most of the guys out will be ready to go against Penninsula and I look forward to getting back to full strength,” Paulson said.

Paulson said he had several good performances from his swimmers including Jake Gould in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle, plus the medley relay; Zach Pettit, 50 and 100 freestyle; Brain Duckett, 50 and 100 freestyle; Andrew Allen, 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly; Reed Hawkins, 200 and 500 freestyle; Nathan Scott, 500 freestyle; Laiton Wood, 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly; Sam Davidson, breastroke; and co-captain Brandon Winchell in the breaststroke.

Newcomers Zach Bordelon and Zach Goodsell swam well in the relays and the 100 backstroke, as did Josiah Hartom, who swam a much-needed butterfly leg in the medley relay, Paulson said.

The Panthers face Timberline on the road at 3:30 p.m. Thursday and host Lakes Tuesday at home.
