The White River Hornets kept things interesting for a half – trailing Fife High just 14-6 during Friday night’s South Puget Sound League 2A football game – but couldn’t do enough to stop the Trojans’ potent rushing attack.

In the end, Fife averaged more than seven yards per carry on the way to a 35-6 victory.

The road loss dropped the Hornets’ record to 0-5 in league play and 1-6 overall.

White River spotted the Trojans a pair of first-quarter touchdowns to fall in an early hole. The Hornets have been guilty of giving up big plays most of the season and Friday was no different, as Fife’s A.T. Turner returned a punt 70 yards for a TD early in the contest. He scored again with 2:33 remaining in the first quarter.

White River cut into the deficit with the only touchdown of the second period, a 3-yard run by Josh Miller.

From that point, it was all Fife. Turner scored his third TD of the night, this one on a 38-yard pass reception, in the third period and Jordon Woodring tacked on a 63-yard scoring run just a few minutes later. A Tyler Anderson field goal and a 27-yard TD run by Mike Anderson capped Fife’s scoring.

The Trojans didn’t require much through the air as the ground game was responsible for 232 net yards on 33 carries. Fife added 68 yards through the air for 300 yards in total offense.

White River had 31 rushing plays but gained just 75 yards. Quarterback Zach McMillen threw 30 times, completing 17, for 171 yards. Cody Havelock caught five passes, good for 61 yards.
