White River High track and field athletes kicked off the dual-meet portion of their 2009 season March 18 with a successful nonleague encounter at Fife High.

Sumner High won on the road March 18, as the Spartans began the regular season with a 3-2 nonleague win over North Thurston in girls tennis.
The Sumner High baseball squad got off to a good start, beating Yelm 5-3 March 18 at home before falling to North Thurston 10-5 Friday.
The Sumner High fastpitch squad got the year off on the right foot when it hosted Yelm March 18 and snuffed out the Tornadoes 6-5. It was a split for the week, when SHS took the bus to North Thurston Friday and fell 7-6.
The 2009 Enumclaw High girls tennis season started on the right foot with a 4-1 nonleague victory over Yelm March 18, but then Mother Nature put a damper on Friday’s South Puget Sound League 3A home opener, forcing the Hornets to reschedule the contest with Peninsula.
Enumclaw High’s track and field crew headed for Franklin Pierce High School Thursday for a three-way meet with the host Cardinals and the Bonney Lake Panthers.

The Bonney Lake Panthers got a chance to hit the diamond last week, but fell 18-6 to Timberline in non-eague play Thursday in Lacey, Wash.
