Yesterday Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist has charged Robert Deshawn Grott, 29, with murder in the first degree for the shooting death of Julian Jemar Thomas, 23, at a Tacoma convenience store.

The Pacing Parson is at it again, and this time he’s walking all over the Plateau and Valley area. Auburn resident Don Stevenson, 80, is walking 1,000 miles for pulmonary hypertension and will be trekking through Bonney Lake and Sumner in February and March.

Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department will help all county residents who qualify get health coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The most recent deadline to sign up for coverage was Jan. 31, but some people may qualify for special enrollment.
Officers were conducting parking violation checks on Jan. 28 when they saw a car parked in a disabled parking spot with no placard displayed.
A wallet with small bags containing meth, heroin and cocaine were turned into police on Jan. 25. The wallet also had several ID cards for different people. Officers found a number for one of the possible owners of the wallet and left a message.
Officers were driving down Veterans Memorial Drive on Jan. 24 when the noticed the smell of burning marijuana coming from the car ahead of them.
Officers received a number of 911 hang up calls on Jan. 23. Eventually communications spoke with the 7-year-old girl who was making the calls because her mother was sick.
Officers pulled over a vehicle going 15 mph over the limit on Jan. 20. The female driver could not provide insurance and her license was suspended. The driver was cited and the car impounded by Cascade Towing.
Unlike the rush hour traffic drivers experience on Traffic Avenue in Sumner, the city’s plans for improving the state Route 410 overpass seem to be moving along smoothly.
