The last day to file for candidacy to elected office is Friday. Online filing closes at 4 p.m., and in-person filing at the Pierce County Election Center closes at 4:30 p.m.

Sumner City Councilwoman Nancy Dumas has entered the race for mayor, according to the Washington Secretary of State’s candidacy filings.

Dumas filed shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday to run for the seat.

Dumas was elected to the council in 2011, defeating appointed incumbent Jon Swanson.

The last day to file for candidacy to elected office is Friday. Online filing closes at 4 p.m., and in-person filing at the Pierce County Election Center closes at 4:30 p.m.

As of 12:37 p.m. Thursday, only two local races have more than one candidate filed: the Sumner mayoral race and the race for Council Position No. 1, which currently includes incumbent Ed Hannus and Planning Commissioner Earle Stuard.

Should any additional candidates file for either race by Friday afternoon, the top two candidates will be determined in the Aug. 6 primary election. Otherwise, all candidates for office in Sumner and Bonney Lake will handily move on to run in the Nov. 5 general election.
