Tim’s Narrative:

· A unit from Black Diamond Fire responded to a reported chimney fire. When the firefighters arrived to the location they found a fire confined to the chimney. The firefighters went on the roof and put the fire out then told the resident to have the chimney inspected by a profession before lighting another fire.

Safety Message:

· About 36 percent of residential fires are from heating fires.

· Keep fire places and wood stoves clean by having them inspected and cleaned on an annual basis. Keep good airflow during your fire so creosote does not build up. Keep decorations away from the area and use fire-resistant materials near the stove or fireplace.

· Be sure to burn safely with the proper types of fuels. Don’t use flammable liquids to start a fire. Use seasoned hardwood and avoid moist, soft wood. Avoid burning trash, cardboard or debris. Be sure to allow the ashes to cool before disposing of them.
