De Caterina’s Fine Jewelry store was the target of an apparent break-in attempt in the early hours of March 17.

Police estimate the attempt occurred between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Bill Matheson said his store, located at 1202 Main Street had two of the double-paned bullet-resistant glass windows were broken with a large brick.

Police investigated and determined the brick was thrown nine times, based on indentations left in the sidewalk when the brick bounced off the glass and onto the sidewalk.

According to Matheson, police told him there was little they could do.

“They made it through both panes on the windows,” Matheson said.

A head-size hole was left in the window, he said, along with “some really nice fingerprints.”

Matheson said the brick did not match similar bricks near the store and he learned similar ones are located under the bridge across the tracks from The Old Cannery and Furniture Warehouse, about one mile away.

“I was looking for this brick,” he said.

He said the brick weighs at least 20 pounds.

“I even kept the brick,” he said.
