Vote expected on police civil service exemption tonight | Bonney Lake City Council

Passage of the ordinance would allow current civil servants to retain For-Cause employment protection should they be promoted to traditionally at-will BLPD leadership positions.

Bonney Lake’s regular city council meeting is scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m.

The top business item on the agenda is an ordinance altering the civil service exemption for police leadership positions, discussed in detail in an article published last week.

To summarize, police personnel are classified as civil service positions that must have cause to be released from employment. However, the positions of Chief of Police, Assistant Chief, and Department Assistant are exempted from civil service protection under the municipal code, and serve at the pleasure of the mayor.

Passage of the ordinance would allow any current Bonney Lake civil service employee to retain for-cause protection should they be promoted to an exempt position at a future date.

Also on the agenda tonight:

• An ordinance to reduce Traffic Impact Fees on local businesses.

• An ordinance to reduce Sewer System Development Charges.

• A motion to set public hearing dates for pre-annexation zoning of the Tehaleh planned community.
