David Lee Ross

Buckley resident David Lee Ross, 93, died June 11, 2014.

He was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Cincinnati, Iowa. He graduated in 1938 from White River High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 5, 1942, eventually serving on the USS Wiley. He worked for Weyerhaeuser as a millwright for more than 30 years. He was an avid reader who collected stamps and coins and enjoyed restoring Model A automobiles. He also was a volunteer firefighter with the Carbonado Fire Department.

He is survived by son Norman Ross and wife Gretchen of Allyn, Wash.; sister Carole Calvert of Enumclaw; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Penny Birrittier; grandson Vince Calvert; and brothers Donald, Jack, Bob and Dick Ross.

An inurnment service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. A celebration of life will follow at noon at the Carbonado Community Church reception hall with a luncheon following.
