White River High’s Barry Bonville capped his senior year as a two-time, back-to-back state champion at the state powerlifting meet in Shelton, Wash.

Bonville also received the coveted “Pound for Pound” award – the Top Overall Male Lifter Award of the state meet.

Not to be outdone was senior Laura Liljeberg, who topped last year’s state champion Aunja Norland for this year’s 97-pound title. At 96 pounds, Liljeberg dead-lifted 240 pounds to win the “Pound for Pound” honor – Top Overall Female Deadlift Award.

Winning by 5 pounds overall in her weight class, the dead lift helped Liljeberg pass Chalene Kelly and Norland, both of Montesano. Liljeberg was trailing by 40 pounds going into the last event, the dead lift.

Shelby Davis also beat last year’s state champion for the crown. The White River freshman topped Janay Creamer from River Ridge of Lacey by 35 pounds overall.

The White River men’s and women’s powerlifting team both placed third.

In addition to the Hornets’ champions, Kevin Moore brought home second place, while Ronald Fox and Cassy Bell each placed third.

White River scored four fourth-place finishers – Lizzy Pries, Caleb Maurseth, Samantha Lovelace and Hanna Olson.

Lindsay Lyons, KC Rainard and Cheyenne Ough each finished fifth.

Dave Meagher and Nicole Crain were sixth-place finishers.

A pair of Hornets – Robbie Allen and Chelsea May – were seventh, and Kelsey Smith placed ninth.
