Nancy Baer is looking for someone to step forward and coordinate this year's annual fund-raising Plateau CROP WALK. Baer, who has been the walk's leader for a number of years, is unable to fulfill that obligation this season.
"I really want this thing to keep going," Baer said. "I know there are numerous people out there who are qualified and can do great and wondrous things with this."
The Plateau CROP WALK started approximately 20 years ago. It involves many of the area's church and fraternal organizations. The coordinator oversees the organization of the event, a committee helps out and local residents walk the 10K route around town to raise money and awareness.
Church World Service is the recipient. The majority of the money raised for the nonprofit organization goes overseas or stays in the United States to help communities and groups of people become more self-sufficient. For example, money is used for digging wells, reforestation of planting areas, business loans, emergencies, education, fish ponds and seed stock.
"I think it's a very effective organization, although it's not as high profile as some," Baer said.
In its first year, the Plateau CROP WALK raised $26,000. Baer said last year's walk raised about $6,000.
A date has not yet been set for this year's event.
Anyone interested in more information or acting as coordinator can contact Baer at 360-825-4484.
