Until Saturday’s narrow defeat at the hands of Class 4A Stadium, Sumner High’s girls soccer squad had been undefeated and hadn’t relinquished a goal.

A 6-0 blanking of the visiting Yelm Thursday was sandwiched between a scoreless tie with Bellarmine Prep Sept. 22 and the 2-1 loss to Stadium Saturday.

Against Yelm, Sumner’s senior goalkeeper Jordan Swarthout managed her fifth shutout.

Senior forward Michelle Nelson got the scoring started for the Spartans when she registered a goal off an assist by Kaylee Holloway at the 14-minute mark and contributed another goal, also assisted by Holloway, at 59 minutes.

Holloway tallied a tandem of goals of her own at the 45 and 59 marks of the contest.

Sumner hosted its league opener against Auburn Mountainview Tuesday, will host a nonleague game against Enumclaw Thursday at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner and will travel to Olympia Tuesday.
