Thanks to Brett Farve schooling Aaron Rogers on Monday Night Football, JL was a perfect 7-0 last week and is two games ahead of DO.
In Week 6, more great matchups on all levels. First, Peninsula, coming off a big win over Class 4A Gig Harbor, 38-7, comes to Sumner Sunset Chev to face a hot Panther team that is coming off an impressive 41-21 win over White River. Peninsula, Bonney Lake and Enumclaw are battling for the No. 2 spot behind undefeated Lakes.
The Arizona schools invade the Evergreen State. The Washington Huskies, off an overtime loss to Notre Dame, will try to end a two-game skid against the visiting ASU Sun Devils, while the winless Wazzu Cougars battle Arizona.
Overall, JL is 26-8 and DO is 24-10.
Peninsula at Bonney Lake
DO: The question is: Can the Seahawks slow down the Panthers’ passing attack? Bonney Lake is riding a four-game winning streak, while Peninsula is sky-high after winning the annual Fish Bowl against Gig Harbor. The Panther defense also has a tough task slowing down a well-balanced Peninsula team. Look for both teams to air out the football. BONNEY LAKE
JL: Man! Talk about your basic tough calls. There is one heck of a lot riding on this one ladies and gentleman. Okay, I am done looking into my crystal ball now. Want to know what I saw in that transparent prophetic orb of mine. It was a smiling Panther with Seahawk feathers stuck in its teeth. Don’t let me down you guys. BONNEY LAKE
Auburn Mountainview at Enumclaw
DO: Enumclaw will celebrate homecoming and look to feast on Lion meat. It will be party time at Pete’s Pool – the second worst football field in the Puget Sound. ENUMCLAW
JL: Look for Auburn Mountainview to challenge Enumclaw early because the Lions’ coach, Mike Clancy, has drilled it into his boys’ heads not to be quitters even in the event of extreme adversity. After intermission though, the Hornets will tighten their chin straps because they want to keep Big Mo moving in the right direction and they have the weapons on the ground and through the air to do just that, in their senior-laden line-up. Look for Enumclaw to prevail in this one. I have it on good authority that the scoreboard might even be fully functional in honor of the Homecoming spirit…But, no cell phone usage please, those tend to mess up the wavelengths my friends. ENUMCLAW
Clover Park at White River
DO: It homecoming time for the Hornets and there is nothing better than thrashing the Warriors. Blake Tidwell and Marc Anderson should provide plenty of offense power against the hapless Warriors. WHITE RIVER
JL: Clover Park does not stand a chance against White River, primarily because the Warriors have no defense and White River will blow CPHS out, utilizing what it does best. Run and run and run. I tip my hat to Blake and the earth movers that open up the holes for him. Go get ’em boys. WHITE RIVER
Mount Tahoma at Sumner
DO: Thursday night the T-Birds, from 4A, ride into Sunset Chev Stadium. This is not the MT team of a few years ago which fought Lincoln and Bellarmine Prep for Narrows League bragging rights. The T-Birds have speed and size and the Spartans needs to strike quick and often against MT. MOUNT TAHOMA
JL: I wish I had the intestinal fortitude to predict a Sumner upset, but I sort of liked going 7-0 last week, so as far as I can tell Sumner will fight the good fight, but will still lose to The Fabulous (4A) Thunderbirds. MOUNT TAHOMA
Arizona at Washington
DO: Well this will be a good time for Jake Locker and the Huskies to get back into the win column after a pair of losses after getting into the Top 25. (Please ditch those white uniforms.) The Dogs are a good team and they need to win to secure any type of bowl berth. WASHINGTON
JL: WASHINGTON
Arizona State at Washington State
DO: The Sun Devils come to Pullman after losing a couple of tough games to Georgia (20-17) and Oregon State (28-17). ASU gets back in the win column against the winless Cougars. ARIZONA STATE
JL: Don’t take away my delusional dreams you doubters. My Cougs will hatch their one annual surprise this weekend and bite that naughty little Sun Devil right in the derriere. You shouldn’t have made that long drive to Moscow “Sparky”. WASHINGTON STATE
Jacksonville at Seattle
DO: The Jaguars come into Qwest Field with a two-game winning streak after a close loss to the Colts and Arizona. The Seahawks, on the other hand, need a win from their injury-ridden squad. But they’ll have to wait another week. JACKSONVILLE.
JL: Dem JAX Jags put up a boat load of yards on the Tennessee Titans last weekend, so I shudder to think what they are going to do to the beat up Seachickens. But give that young man calling signals for Seattle a break, he just needs a few more baptisms by fire. He is not that bad of a field general, he just needs better blocking from his line and a few more games under his belt. If Jacksonville’s coach, Jack Del Rio didn’t need the win so bad in order to stay employed, I’d say the Hawks might just pull this one off. But no, I’m afraid it is going to be the Jags folks. JACKSONVILLE
New England at Denver
DO: This could be a preview to the AFC championship game. Denver is undefeated and playing well with QB Kyle Orton running the show. The story may be how well the Bronco defense is performing. They have only allowed 26 points in their four wins. Stop QB Tom Brady is key to beating the Patroits. Because they’re playing at home …. DENVER
JL: The Broncos are vastly improved over last season and the Pats don’t quite have their act intact yet. Additionally, I think that Brandon Marshall has finally stopped his little foot stomping pity party and grown up. Anyone see him against the Pokes last Sunday…Look out New England defense, you gotta freight train of pain headed right towards you. DENVER
