Sumner City Council members passed the 2009-10 biennial budget Nov. 16.
A preliminary biennial budget public hearing took place during the Nov. 2 council meeting.
The state requires the budget process to include public hearings on revenue sources for the following year’s budget, including consideration of possible increases in property tax revenues.
Sumner is exercising its authority to raise its tax levy, Deputy City Administrator Diane Supler said.
The levy is estimated at $935,064 for 2010.
The council determined the increase in costs of maintaining infrastructure and providing the services needed to Sumner’s parks, information technology, administration and more, made the increase necessary.
