For the past four years, Sunset Chevrolet in Sumner has helped its nearby communities by hosting a food and toy drive.
This year’s drive began Nov. 16 and is in full swing until Dec. 16, although it may be extended to account for last-minute donations.
Inside the dealership and displayed in the showroom is a truck in which donations are gathered before being taken to St. Francis House and the Sumner Community Food Bank in December.
Sunset Chevrolet’s Terry Dinklage said the food bank needs donations of items containing protein. Canned meats and peanut butter are needed, and a lot of people are bringing soups, Tuna Helper and Hamburger Helper, he said.
Sunset Chevrolet accepts donations from 7 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 16.
All employees at Sunset Chevrolet are involved in the drive, said Dinklage, especially dealers Phil Mitchell, Jerry Yoder and Ray Sparling.
“Just because the economy’s bad we’re not going to stop helping people,” Mitchell said.
