Eight Enumclaw School District teachers have earned National Board Certification.
Enumclaw High School teachers Bob Kilmer, Barb Schreiner, Susan Sandfer and Tiffany Armstrong; Thunder Mountain Middle School teacher Kamele Kimball; Elementary teachers Kim Patrick, Matt Hicks and JoAnn Amberg were recently awarded the honor.
The National Board Certification process is a voluntary assessment year-long assessment program that involves video of teachers in their classrooms, a written paper and an exam.
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, which oversees the National Board Certified Teachers program, has developed the only national set of professional standards that defines accomplished teaching.
According to Superintendent Mike Nelson, the eight join 21 others on the district staff to make up more than 11 percent of the district’s certificated staff.
Teachers who earn the certificate receive a $5,000 a year bonus. The Enumclaw School Board plans to honor the certificate earners at its Dec. 21 regular meeting.
