In a low-scoring affair, Bonney Lake found themselves on the short end of a 48-41 loss at home Feb. 2 against Franklin Pierce in South Puget Sound League 3A action.

Bonney Lake had a 10-8 after the opening period of play, but the Cardinals went on a 12-4 run and took a 6-point lead into intermission.

Early in the third, the Panther cut the lead to on, 26-25, on Kyle Bobbit’s layup. But Franklin Pierce answered with a 5-1 run.

Franklin Pierce pulled away in the final quarter for a 9-point lead, 45-36. Riley Baltazar hit a 3-pointer off a stead to pull the Panthers within six, 45-39.

The Panthers applied full-court press, but was unable to cut the margin.

Nathan Braun led the Panthers with 15 and Chad Marquez added seven.

Lakes 81, 44

State-ranked Lakes cruised out to a 16-3 lead and went on to hand Sumner a 81-44 SPSL 3A loss at home.

Jared Lewis led the Spartans with 14 and Mike Murphy chipped in seven.
