BLHS VOLLEYBALL: Panthers run into top Lions

After pushing its South Puget Sound League 3A record to 2-0 by defeating Peninsula Sept. 28, Bonney Lake High’s volleyball bunch encountered its initial roadblock of the 2010 campaign, hosting an unbeaten Auburn Mountainview and falling 25-10, 25-12 and 25-17.

The Panthers started on the right foot, beating Peninsula 25-14, 19-25, 25-17, 25-14. Chelsea Merkel offered up 41 assists and a dozen digs, while Bailey Kinkel managed 20 digs. BLHS hitters Danielle Norton and Taylor Watkins combined for 25 kills. Watkins displayed another of her many skills, rocketing seven services aces.

The Thursday setback to the Lions lowered the Panthers’ league record to 2-1.
