Spartans race to district times in opener

Sumner High boys swim and dive team topped Clover Park, 121-36, Washington, 128-30, and Franklin Pierce, 118-31, in the season’s opener Tuesday at Clover Park.
Two of the Spartans three relays and six swimmers raced to district times.
The 200-yard medley relay of Zane Gustafson, Connor Powers-Hubbard, Trent Powers and Sam Rigsby earned a district time with a 1-minute, 55.02-second finish.
The foursome also scored a district time in the 200 freestyle relay. The Spartans second 200 freestyle relay of Sam Parks, Josh Goodsell, Tanner Harrison and Severn Anderson also raced to a district time.
Gustafson earned a district time in the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 2:11.23.
Powers-Hubbard picked up a 200 individual medley, district time and first-place finish in 2:17.78 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.59.
Powers earned a first-place finish and district time in the 200 butterfly in 1:02.56 and 50 freestyle.
