A Friday sporting showdown between neighboring schools saw White River twice emerging on top.

In afternoon action, the Buckley girls notched a fastpitch victory over Enumclaw and, that evening, White River registered a soccer triumph over their King County rivals.

In North Puget Sound League 3A fastpitch softball action, the host squad from White River outlasted Enumclaw 9-7 in a back-and-forth battle. When EHS scored a run in the first inning, White River put two across the plate in the bottom half of the frame. After Enumclaw took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third, White River scored four times in the fourth inning to regain the advantage.

In the end, it was a three-run sixth inning that made the difference for the home team.

White River was sparked by McKenna Charlton who had four hits on the afternoon, including a pair of doubles, and drove in five runs. On the pitching front, Laken Elvig went the distance to get the win, striking out 11 EHS batters in the process.

Enumclaw’s Lila Schmidt and Braelynn Schliep had three hits each, both scored twice and Schmidt knocked in three runs.

The win pushed White River’s record to 10-1 in league play, keeping the Hornets in first place. Enumclaw slipped to 9-3 in the NPSL 3A standings..

Later in the day it was the White River boys, also playing at home, who posted a victory over Enumclaw.

The effort was highlighted by a three-goal performance by junior Max Argo, who found the net in just the second minute, added another tally shortly after intermission and polished off a stellar evening with a penalty kick in the 66th minute.

Enumclaw cracked the scoreboard in the final minutes when Ben Largent buried a shot.

The outcome kept both Plateau squads in the middle of the NPSL 3A pack. White River improved to 7-4-1 in league play, with Enumclaw just a step behind at 6-6-1.
