The Bonney Lake boy’s basketball squad evened up its overall record at 5-5, with a pair of close non-league road victories last week over first Stadium 48-46 then against Fife in a double overtime cliffhanger 61-58, in preparation for last night’s initial SPSL 3A outing of the season at the Panther Den, against Auburn Mountainview.
In the recent tilt versus Stadium, Bonney Lake zipped out to a 42-35 advantage after three periods and then held on to claim a nail biter, in which Mikey Berger and Mike Gould combined to put up 25 crucial points against the always tough Tigers.
Meanwhile in the wild affair with Fife a few days later, roundball fans were treated to a holiday hoop marathon that featured two bonus frames. The visiting Panthers were able to rely on extremely balanced scoring as Kaleb Zahnow, Derek Lund and Gould all tallied eight points, while Cassidy Gifford and Keenan Jackson were able to notch 23 points between them.
While the results of the Panther’s SPSL 3A lid lifter with the Lions arrived to late to include here, the black and teal will participate in its second league meeting of the campaign, this Friday evening at Decatur High beginning at 7 p.m.
