Nancy Dumas’ citizen forum re-scheduled to June 19 at the old Dieringer school

Councilwoman Nancy Dumas’s civic pet project, an open forum for Sumner’s public and private citizens, is back on after being cancelled indefinitely in May.

“The Table” will take place at the Old Dieringer School—now Peterson Bros Building—at 2008 East Valley Highway on June 19.

The seed of the idea came from a March Guiding Light seminar led by motivational speaker Eric Liu, Dumas said, initially conceived as a grant fund competition. She and former council candidate Melony Pedersen eventually came to the conclusion that there was a dearth of public discourse in city council meetings.

“At a city council meeting, the podium can be less than satisfying,” Dumas said.

The forum will begin with a round robin round table. Attendees will be broken into groups to discuss current events in five minute increments. Tables will rotate and the process will repeat until the floor opens for full discussion of the groups’ conclusions. Open discussion of any topic will follow.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with a half-hour snack meet-and-greet before the forum begins.
