Nakayama, Brown top Sumner and Bonney Lake teams at sub-district meet | Gymnastics

Sumner High School’s Kimi Nakayama took seventh place, and Bonney Lake’s Alix Brown took 13th, at Saturday’s South Puget Sound League Sub-District gymnastics meet.
Five schools competed in the meet, with the Spartans and Panthers joined by Enumclaw, Decatur and Auburn Mountainview. Followers of the sport won’t be surprised that Enumclaw’s Olivia Bannerot came in first place with an all-around score of 36.5.
Nakayama earned an all-around 33, scoring 8.35 on the vault, 7.05 on the uneven bars, 8.65 on the balance beam, and 8.95 on floor work. She came in eighth in the vault, bars and beam. Despite earning her best event score on floor work, she placed ninth in the highly competitive category.
Brown achieved an overall score of 30.9, earning 8.4 on the vault, 7.05 on the uneven bars, 7.95 on the balance beam, and 7.5 on floor work. She took sixth on vault, tied Nakayama for eighth on the uneven bars, 12th on the beam and 19th on floor work.
Nakayama was followed by Sierra Tinsley with a 30.625 all-around and Ally Erkers with a 27.4 all-around.
Brown was followed by Samantha McCurley with 30.3 all-around and Jessica Mitchell with 25.9.
The gymnastics district meet will be held Saturday at Mt. Rainier High School.
