Doolittle Construction will be the contractor undertaking Bonney Lake’s annual Chip Seal Project in August. City crews will prepare the streets for the street chip sealing process, as they do every year. Streets are chosen based on condition surveys using the city’s pavement management system.
The contractor will begin working in the middle of August. First, the pavement surface will be sprayed with an asphalt emulsion, onto which fractured rocks will be spread. The rock chips will then be pressed into the emulsion with a roller before the road will be re-opened for traffic. Depending on the temperature and moisture in the air, roads are typically opened within 30 minutes of treatment. Within 24 hours, the contractor will sweep up any loose rock chips. The city street sweeper will further assist by sweeping loose chips off the roads.
The following street sections to be sealed this year include:
North and South Island Drive East
Portions of 183rd and 185th just South of Lake Bonney
94th St between 194th and 198th
192nd Ave from So City limits to 107th
209th Ave from 95th to 97th
204th Ave from 93rd to 96th Street
For more information, and a map of the streets being treated, please visit the city of Bonney Lake‘s website, under the current projects page.
