In the next couple of years you’re going to see a lot of seismic retrofit work in South King County, and you may hear words you may not know. What the heck is a bolster or a girder stop, anyway?
Two big seismic retrofit projects are scheduled along I-5, one from SR 18 to South 288th Street in Federal Way, the other from South 272ndStreet in Kent to South Rose Street in Seattle. Between the two projects, work will take place at 12 locations. It won’t really affect I-5, but if you use the roads under the freeway where work is scheduled, you’ll see some sidewalk, shoulder and lane closures.
These projects are designed to help bridges and overpasses better withstand future earthquakes. You can learn more at our seismic retrofitpage.
