Library board to discuss access policy, capital improvement projects

At its June meeting, the Pierce County Library System Board of Trustees will discuss a revised access policy, capital improvement project savings, an updated employee wellness program, and more. The board meets from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on June 11 at the library’s Processing and Administrative Center, 3005 112th St. E., in Tacoma. The meeting is open to the public. Download the agenda.
Final version of access policy presented
Pierce County Library System provides free and equitable access to library resources, services and materials. At its May meeting, the board further revised the library’s access policy and directed staff to make additional minor modifications. Library staff will present the final version at the June board meeting. The access policy also has been posted with all other policies on the library’s website.
Savings seen on 2013 capital improvement projects
The total paid for 2013 capital projects was less than expected. Costs for heating, ventilation and cooling system improvements came in under budget, and the library anticipates $70,000 in rebates. Replacing older vans with hybrid vehicles totaled less than the budgeted amount and already has begun showing fuel savings.
Updated employee wellness program implemented
In partnership with the Association of Washington Cities, the library is implementing an updated wellness program for employees. The library is applying for a Well City Award through AWC, which could result in a two percent rebate (approximately $30,000) in benefits costs for the library.
