The Spartans kicked off the season with two home wins beating Franklin Pierce 28-6 in week one and winning 51-14 over Shelton Friday.

The Highclimbers scored first with 1:59 to go in the first quarter.

Sumner answered quickly, scoring 30 seconds later tying the game at seven.

The Spartans took the lead on a pick six by senior Gage Whitehead.

Adding to their lead, Sumner kicks a field goal to take them up 17-7 over Shelton.

With less than four minutes to go in the first half, Sumner added to its lead with a touchdown from sophomore running back Connor Wedington.

Sumner and Shelton entered halftime with the Spartans up 23-7.

The second half started with another touchdown run by Wedington.

The Spartans had a 30-7 lead early in the third quarter.

With four minutes remaining, Sumner added another seven to its lead over Shelton.

The Highclimbers scored for its last time on a long run bringing the score to 37-14.

Junior wide receiver Josiah Fidecaro added another seven on the board after a 57 yard run.

The Spartans increased its lead one final time with a touchdown by senior wide receiver Triston Wedington.

Sumner travels to Enumclaw this week to play the Hornets in the first league game of the season at 7 p.m. at the Enumclaw Expo Center.
