The Enumclaw High boys basketball team is ready to roll on the hardwood for the 2014-15 season.
Like most high-school teams, the Hornets lost some key seniors to graduation, but there are strong athletes returning.
There are three returning starters for Enumclaw.
Senior Zac Webb, 6 feet, 4 inches, is playing both the guard and forward position.
Coach Kellen Hall said he is a, “Hard worker, has a nose for the ball, not flashy but consistently solid. The type of player you need to be successful.”
Also playing guard and forward is Josh Erickson at 6 feet, 5 inches. Erickson was honorable mention all-league last season and Hall said, “(He has)unbelievable potential, has all the tools and has the ability to dominate the floor at both ends. Looking to step from a supporting role into a more main role. Consistency will be key for him this year.”
Scotty Garvin moves from the quarterback position on the football field to the guard and forward on the hardwood. At 6 feet, 4 inches, Hall said Garvin is a, “very strong, tough kid. He has the ability to add a toughness to our team that will be crucial. Very versatile, can play everything from point to post if necessary.”
The coach said when the Hornets play a controlled game offensively, looking to attack the hoop, the team is very good.
“Learning what are good shots and how to get them as a team is a big hurdle for us and something we will continue to work hard on,” Hall said. “I expect our team to go through some growing, which will come with some ups and downs. If we can come together as a team, buy in and play selfless basketball, then I believe we can compete for a spot in postseason play. That will be quite a battle in our competitive league, and we will need to work hard and continue to grow to do so.”
