SR 20/North Cascades Highway reopens after fierce wildfires | WSDOT

The state Route 20/North Cascades Highway reopened this afternoon following a fierce wildfires that closed the highway on Aug. 19.

Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews spent the weekend clearing burned trees and drainage ditches to get the highway open.

WSDOT geotechnical crews also examined the burned slopes following this weekend’s for slide activity following this weekend’s heavy rain.

Drivers should be prepared for additional road or lane closures on SR 20 if heavy rain loosens the soil or burned debris falls onto the highway.
