Editor’s note: The following is a press release from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

There’s good news to share for people traveling between Buckley and Wilkeson on State Route 165. All lanes of the highway in Burnett reopened Thursday, July 16 following a culvert repair.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation reduced the highway to single-lane, alternating traffic on Monday, June 22. Work was expected to wrap up by the end of July. All lanes are open to traffic ahead of schedule.

During the closure, crews dug up the roadway, removed an 18-inch pipe and replaced it with a larger 24-inch pipe. Pipe obstructions were removed along with the installation of two new catch basins.

The new catch basins and culvert allow for easier, ongoing maintenance of the system going forward.

Earlier this year, a culvert failed under SR 165, causing water to cover the highway and adjacent properties.
