EHS’ lacrosse coach honored by sports association

David Pugh, who guided the Enumclaw High to a state championship, has received top honors by the Washington State High School Boys Lacrosse Association.

The Hornet mentor was named Coach of the Year by WSHSBLA.

The recognition comes following the best season in EHS lacrosse history. Playing in the Olympic/Puget 2A division, Enumclaw went a perfect 6-0 in league play and 12-1 overall during the regular season. The only blemish came on opening night.

Two months later, Pugh was directing his squad to convincing playoff victories over Squalicum (19-5) and Burlington-Edison (22-5). Finally, on May 27, it was the Hornets hoisting the state championship trophy following a 20-9 thumping of Orting in the finale at Starfire Sports Complex.

Mills honored: Enumclaw High’s Anthony Mills also was in for high honors following the Hornets’ historic season.

The Hornet junior was named an Academic All-American. The honor typically is given in recognition of top-notch lacrosse skills, sportsmanship on the field and high standards of academic achievement in the classroom.
