I found it coincidental that Rich Elfers’ informative and useful “In Focus” column explaining the pros and cons of the Washington State Millionaires’ Tax (“Pros and cons of the new ‘Millionaires Tax’,” published March 18) was juxtaposed with Buss’ out of focus, crackpot, angry letter-to-the-editor (“The “Millionaire’s Tax” will come for you soon,” published March 11) regarding the same subject. Elfers’ column shines a light on Buss’ lack of expertise on this subject.

Buss continues to use this newspaper to exercise his right to free expression while simultaneously vociferously condemning that same right when exercised by young people because Buss is frightened by their message. Readers, can you please say “rich hypocrisy” out loud? Thank you. One more time.

What I am also curious about is how much is Buss benefiting from Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill”? This bill was designed to unfairly reduce tax rates across the wealthiest tax brackets which would effectively allow those earning the most to benefit from the largest tax savings. Those earning the most will continue to fail to pay their fair share in taxes percentage-wise. Buss, how much money are you saving and benefiting from Trump’s tax bill? Readers here want to know.

I looked up and down the state legislature rosters. I didn’t find Buss’ name listed as a senator or representative. How does Buss know that there will eventually be an income tax for all? Is Buss privy to insider information about the state’s future tax plans? Readers here want to know.

I am happy to take comfort from Mr. Elfers’ informed counsel because his column contributes to public understanding while Buss’ political letter is ill-informed and is derived from Pavlovian grievance-pity pot-sky-is-falling hysteria. Buss, lighten up.
