Editor’s note: The following is in response to “Being Christian means praying for all presidents,” published May 8.

“So, that is how I understand my obligation as a Christian. I am required to pray for any, and all, who are in authority.”

Mark Akers feels obliged to support anyone in a position of authority because they are in a position of authority, and he attributes this attitude to his Christianity. Interesting!

“I have confessed my sin before God, and now all of Enumclaw, and I am forgiven. What a wonderful, blessed feeling.”

Mr. Akers appears to believe he can do whatever he wants so long as he tells someone else about it later. It’s a wonderful feeling! he writes. I’m sure it is comforting to absolve yourself of all earthly accountability, Mark, but I wouldn’t call it wonderful and I certainly wouldn’t be proud of it.

It’s interesting to me how little pushback people like Mark receive. If I were Christian and I read his shameful drivel I would feel compelled to present an alternative view of Christianity, but you all seem content to let this morally deficient, smug little fool represent you. Are you proud to be associated with this man?
