I figured when I submitted that letter at least one person who is not Mark Akers would come defend him. Some Christians love to talk about forgiveness, with hardly a word on endeavoring to do the right thing in the first place.

It’s quite simple really: people like me, godless heathens, we can do whatever we want. But not Christians: when they do wrong, God (who is also love) must “deal with” their bad behavior. But God forgives everything! But they can’t do whatever they want. But everything they do will be forgiven by God who is also love. But it’s me, the heathen, who feels free to do whatever I want, not them, the Christians, who will be forgiven by their ultimate authority for anything and everything they’ve done.

Mark wrote a letter explaining why he prays for all presidents. Now he’d like to clarify that he wasn’t saying he supported any of those presidents (“Prayer does not equal support,” published June 24). Mark had plenty of words to spare on the matter of gender, but he can’t answer the question he allegedly felt “compelled to reply” to. Is it Christian to support Trump or not? Surely it’s an easy question for a man so confident in his faith; why avoid answering it?

I assume everyone’s gender by the way. The trick is to do so on the basis of their choices, not what you presume about their reproductive capacity: the name they choose to write under, for example. The blue-haired feminist screeching at you about “assuming gender” is in your head.
