Oldtimers Vision finds the winners circle in Saturday feature | Emerald Downs

Oldtimers Vision, forced to alter course in deep stretch, was awarded the victory Saturday in the $18,900 feature race for 3-year-olds at Emerald Downs.
Dark Brago, the longest shot on the board at 12-to-1, finished first by a nose in 1:10.05 for six furlongs, but was disqualified and placed second for impeding Oldtimers Vision in the final sixteenth of a mile.
Ridden by Leslie Mawing, Oldtimers Vision paid $8.80, $3.80 and $2.40. Neil Knapp is the trainer and co-owner with Dr, William Lien.
Last early, Oldtimers Vision waited to mid-stretch to kick in, and appeared destined for victory until Dark Brago ducked out to take the path of Oldtimers Vision.
“I hate to win races like this, but I felt he was going to win by a half-length,” Mawing said in the post-race interview.
The stewards agreed, noting that Oldtimers Vision nearly won the race anyway, surging late to just miss.
Dark Brago, ridden by Ronald Richard, kicked clear of 3-to-5 favorite Stikine Slough into the lane and finished the six furlongs in 1:10.05. Winner of three straight races this summer at Les Bois Park, including a five-length win in the Boise Derby, Dark Brago paid $5.60 and $2.80.
Spit and Shine, ridden by Jose Zunino, finished a head back in third and paid $2.60 to show. Stikine Slough faded to finish fourth and Jordan’s Quest was last.
NOTES: Mawing swept the late daily double, winning the nightcap on Charming Budha ($7.20), and leads Rocco Bowen 87-62 in the jockeys’ standings. . .Gallyn Mitchell and Isaias Enriquez also rode two winners each on the nine-race card. For Enriquez, who turned 41 Saturday, it was the second straight year he celebrated his birthday with a multiple-win day at Emerald Downs. . .Nine different trainers each won a race Saturday, including a $21 upset by Inviting Roman that pulled Frank Lucarelli within eight wins of Jeff Metz in the trainers’ standings. With 10 days remaining, Metz leads Lucarelli 45-37, with Jim Penney third with 28 wins. . .Trainer Bonnie Jenne finished first and second in Saturday’s seventh race, as Smart Copy ($6.60) held off 22-to-1 Birdsone in 1:16.60 for 6 ½ furlongs. A 3-year-old Papa Clem gelding, Smart Copy was making his second start after being claimed for $15,000 by Frank McDonald onJuly 20. Birdsone, a 3-year-old Birdstone gelding, is the first foal out of six-time Emerald Downs winner Ladyledue. . .Trainer Marcie Riley scored her first win of the meet as I’m Shootin High ($6.60) rallied to win race five under Connie Doll. . .Live racing continues Sunday with Washington Cup XII, featuring six stakes events for Washington-breds worth $300,000 in purses.
