The city of Bonney Lake bought about four acres of land near the intersection of 184th Avenue East and Sumner-Buckley Highway. The land cost the city $650,000 and was paid for out of the general fund balance. The money had been listed as the municipal improvement fund, or new city hall fund.

The plan is to use the land to redirect 184th Avenue East so the intersection can be redesigned and improved.

"It's a very bad intersection," Mayor Bob Young said. "This land came up for auction and it was too good to pass up. We made our offer and got it. It's a good investment. Once we're done designing the road we will turn around and sell it and get our money back."
