142nd Avenue East/Fryar Avenue bridge closed to all traffic during roadway removal and rebuild

The bridge connecting 142nd Avenue East to Fryar Ave will be closed to all traffic as necessary during work on the Traffic Avenue and Main Street intersection.

The closure is necessary in part because of roadway removal and rebuild, but also because large semi trailers using the route can’t make the turn onto Fryar Avenue during construction, Associate City Engineer Ted Hill said.

While traffic can use Tacoma Avenue and Puyallup Street to access Fryar Ave., Hill encouraged truck traffic to use the SR 167 24th Street exit and 142nd Avenue East to access the industrial area.

Public Works will be paving the intersection soon, with work being done in the evening and at night to minimize impacts to traffic and finish work with speed.

However, the night paving will eliminate through traffic and only allow for local access to businesses that are open. Starting Wednesday night, the contractor will be excavating the old pavement starting after most businesses are closed and then working throughout the night.  That work schedule should continue through Sunday evening with a tentative paving date on the night of March 17.  Various factors such as weather will determine the final paving date.

Businesses planning evening or nighttime deliveries while work is being done should contact Hill.
