CARJACKED!

On Jan. 1 at about 5:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to a gunpoint robbery—a carjacking—that just occurred in the 1200 block of Valley Avenue. The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and demanded her purse and keys, which he used to take off in her vehicle. Officers did an area check for the vehicle, but it was not found in the immediate vicinity. The victim described the suspect and advised he had a very distinct jacket. A witness said the suspect approached the victim and he thought the suspect was panhandling; he then realized that wasn’t the case when he jumped into her car and fled. The victim advised that her cell phone, which had an installed tracking device, was left in the car. The phone was found to be at an address in Auburn, and Auburn police responded to the address.  The vehicle was located and Sumner police responded to the address her they later arrested the suspect, who happened to be wearing the distinct jacket seen in the surveillance video and described by the victim. The officers located a gun, which turned out to be an air pistol. The victim positively identified the arrested person as the person who robbed her. He was booked into Pierce County Jail for robbery in the first degree.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF

On Jan. 2, at approximately 8:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to a reported domestic violence in progress, in which a wife was intoxicatedly yelling at her husband and their son because she was locked outside. She had left the house via the bedroom window and was trying to re-enter the household. When she could not get back inside, she started pounding on the back door—possibly with an ax handle. The outside door handle was broken and lying on the ground. There were also dents in the door like she was banging on the door with the end of the ax handle. When officers arrived they talked to the susect and she advised that she and her husband had been arguing earlier in the day, so she locked herself and her 6-month-old baby into the bedroom. She then climbed out the window, leaving her baby inside of the locked bedroom unattended. Nobody was able to quickly access the baby if needed. When asked, the arrestee advised she had nothing to drink, then later said she may have had two or three drinks. The arrestee was booked into Puyallup Jail for malicious mischief in the third degree.
