BONNEY LAKE VOLLEYBALL: Panthers split pair of contests

Bonney Lake High’s volleyball team split a pair of contests as it finished the first week of the season with a 1-1 mark.
On the road, the Bonney Lake girls started off the season with a 3-0 win over Franklin Pierce in South Puget Sound League 3A action Sept. 8 in Parkland. The Panthers won, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-19.
The Panthers were dominating from the service line as they recorded 15 aces, placing 95 of their 102 serves.
Ashley Reisen had seven aces, going 24 for 25 from the service line.
Danille Norton and Allison Hills were among a host of players with perfect serving. Norton served 18 times with a pair of aces and Hills had 14 serves.
Chelsea Merkel collected two aces on her 11 for 14 attempts, along with her 11 assists.
Hills paced the team with five kills and Carly O’Farrell added four. Bonney Lake had 20 kills overall.
Defensively, Karlyn Edwards led the Panthers with 10 digs, while Reisen, Norton and Bailey Kinkel had five each. Natosha Lyonais had a pair of blocks and served up three aces in two games.
After posting a season-opening win, the Panthers dropped a 3-1 match to Timberline in nonleague play Thursday at home.
Timberline lost the first game, 25-21, but rallied back to win the final three, 25-22, 25-21, 25-14.
Hill finished with 14 kills, while Merkel and Reisen had 17 and 18 assists, respectively. Edwards collected 32 digs.
Reisen served three aces.
Bonney Lake hosts Yelm Thursday in nonleague action then travels to Enumclaw Tuesday for a key South Puget Sound League 3A match.
