BONNEY LAKE GOLF: Panthers claim win in opener

Bonney Lake High senior Courtney Bartlett shot a 16-over par 52 as the Panthers won their season opener against Clover Park 53-23 at the Tacoma Golf and County Club in Lakewood Thursday.
It was the first South Puget Sound League 3A win of the season for team.
Senior teammate Tracy Hare finished close at 53 and Ali Ronnfeldt shot a 55.
Coach Sharon Lovinger was pleased with the performance of two of her underclassmen players. Freshman Anna Babbitt, who finished at 53 and sophomore Megan Charron, who shot a 58.
In a practice match Sept. 8 against Auburn Mountainview at home, the girls scored a 50-44 win over the Lions.
Hare shot a 46. Bartlett had a 55 and Ronnfeldt finished with a 49.
The Bonney Lake boys scored a 32-15 win over Clover Park in league play.
Josh Journey and Clover Park’s Kaleb Davis tied for top medalist honors at 13-over par.
“We struggled playing at the club,” coach J.D. Rushton said. “We weren’t able to adjust to putting on their very fast greens.”
Both the boys and girls play at Peninsula Thursday in a SPSL 3A matchup, then host White River Tuesday at High Cedars Golf Club.
