Volleyball coaches name all-league; Argo top coach

Four area players were named to the first team of the 2009 All-South Puget Sound League 3A girls volleyball team, selected by league coaches.
Bonney Lake, which finished third in the league standings, placed two players on the first team, while Sumner and White River had one each.
Named to the first team – all seniors – were outside hitter Allison Hills and libero Karyln Edwards of Bonney Lake, setter Kailey Smith of Sumner and outside hitter Kelsi Tyler of White River.
Second-team all-league players were junior setter Chelsea Merkel of Bonney Lake, senior middle hitter Carley McCutchen of White River and sophomore middle hitter Hayleemae Dennis of Enumclaw.
Lakes’ senior setter Deedre Foss was named the league’s Most Valuable Player and White River’s Strydar Argo was named Coach of the Year.
Argo led the Hornets to a second-place finish in the league and the subdistrict’s No. 1 seed.
Players who received honorable mention were Sidney Erickson, Janille Panula and Kayla Roberts of Sumner, Jailyn VanSickle of White River and Taylor Watkins of Bonney Lake.
