Season tied for deadliest ever after third drowning on Lake Tapps Sunday

Sunday's drowning made this season the deadliest on record for the popular East Pierce County lake. No prior summer has seen more than two deaths on the lake.

A 19-year-old man pulled from Lake Tapps Sunday has died, marking the third drowning this season at the lake.

East Pierce Fire and Rescue dive teams were called to Lake Tapps Park North County Park at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of a water rescue. Divers found the man approximately 15 minutes after crews arrived. He was transported by boat to was waiting medical unit where he was treated.

According to reports, the man had a faint pulse and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, where he later died at approximately 9:30 p.m., according to a tweet from Pierce County Detective Ed Troyer.

Sunday’s drowning ties this season the deadliest on record for the popular East Pierce County lake. Three people also drowned during the 2010 season.

On June 21, 16-year-old Quentin Boggan of Bonney Lake drowned at Allan Yorke Park. On July 21, 20-year-old Marcus Henderson of Minnesota drowned at Lake Tapps North County Park.
