With two dual meets remaining, Sumner High swim coach Dana Powers is confident Sami Hendricks will nail a state time in the 100-yard freestyle. The Spartan again came close Thursday as Sumner dropped a 111-75 contest to Peninsula.

The Spartans’ 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams are also on the edge of state times.

The Spartans close out the regular season with back-to-back home meets. Tuesday’s results with Lakes came too late for publication, but can be found at cmg-northwest2.go-vip.net/courierherald. Thursday, the Spartans clash with cross-district rival Bonney Lake in the season finale. Start time is 3:30 p.m. at the Sumner High pool.

Against Peninsula, Powers had to convert the times from meters to yards, but Hendricks’ 56.50 second finish was just off the state mark of 56.30.

The 200 medley relay of Taylor Ditty, Ashley Huynh, Emma Thompson and Hendricks finished in 2.00.28. The state time is 1:58.50.

Sumner’s 200 freestyle relay of Hendricks, Thompson, Lizzie Kressler and Ditty, raced to a 1.49.47, not their best time, but still close to a state time. The foursome’s top time is a 1:47.48, two seconds off the state pace.

The Spartans also topped Timberline 105-81 Oct. 6.
